Board of Directors
Colin De Souza, Board President
Colin is currently the Senior Manager of Equity Programs, Executive Compensation at BMO Financial Group, and has been part of the BMO team since 2001. His previous work experience spans a diverse range of organizations including Molson Breweries, The Society of Management Accountants of Canada, Sheridan College and KPMG. Through a career spanning three decades, he has gained broad experience and expertise in financial reporting and measurement, relationship management, development of performance metrics, and evaluation of audit and governance practices. He is a firm believer in continuous professional education and in giving back to the community through sharing of knowledge and resources. Colin maintains strong volunteer ties to the Catholic community and is a strong supporter Catholic Education through active engagement on parent councils in several schools within the DPCDSB. Colin holds a BA, Accounting and Masters of Accounting from the University of Waterloo and is a CPA, CA (1990) and CPA, CMA (1991). Prior to joining the Vita Centre Board, he served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of Catholic Cross-cultural Services and Three Trilliums Community Place. Colin currently serves as Vita Centre’s President and sits on all Committees of the Board as an Ex-Officio member.
Pravin Rodrigues, Board Vice President, Chair of the Funding Strategies and Sustainability Committee
Pravin is the President of Mentis Management Solutions, Inc., a management consulting firm. He has worked in diverse industry sectors in positions in corporate financial planning, investments, marketing, product management, sales, change management and operations. Working with both large and small organizations, he has not only cultivated his passion for business but also recognized the benefits of organizations being more accountable for balancing growth and profit with social aims. Pravin holds a Bachelor of Arts, Economics (Western), an MBA (Queen’s), a graduate certificate in Executive Coaching (Royal Roads) and a Masters in Sustainability Leadership (Cambridge, UK). Pravin also serves on Vita’s Governance and Risk Management Committee.
Nicole Dehghan, Board Treasurer, Chair of Finance and Measurement Committee
Nicole is a graduate of York University with an honours degree in Financial Accounting and Taxation. She has spent her accounting and finance career working with both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. She has volunteered as a Treasurer for Autism in Mind, and Kids in the Woods, and has served as a board member for Mary Centre among other organizations. Nicole is a firm believer in the importance and value of effective advocacy in social work.
Christine Gallo, Board Secretary
Christine is a corporate securities lawyer currently acting as legal counsel for Yamana Gold Inc. Previously, she served as legal counsel to several publicly traded companies in the mining industry. She began her career as an associate at a major Canadian law firm, with a focus on securities law. Ms. Gallo received her Bachelor of Laws (JD) from Osgoode Hall Law School and her Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business.
Angie Girgis, Chair of the Governance and Risk Management Committee
Angie is the owner/operator of My Angelic Treasures, a Christian Childcare Centre in operation since 2003, now with two locations. Angie bring her experience with programs, teaching, administration and child development (from birth to teenage years) to the Vita board and the organization. Angie has served Vita as a Director and as Board President, lending her skills to support in various functional areas of the organization and its mission to encourage and provide hope for pregnant and parenting youth.
Sareena Baksh, Chair of the Human Resources Committee
Sareena works with McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada as a National Learning and Development Consultant, supporting the creation and deployment of training programs across Canada for both corporate and restaurant employees. In her previous role as a regional Human Resources Consultant, she provided support and guidance in areas such as employee relations, recruitment and retention, and performance management. She will bring her expertise in these areas as she chairs Vita’s HR Committee. Sareena holds an Honours B.Sc from the University of Toronto, as well as post-graduate certifications in Human Resources and Project Management, and has volunteered in past years with the Peel Children’s Aid Society as a tutor.
Enrico Persicone, Chair of the Audit Committee
Enrico is currently the Senior Manager of the BMO Canada Pension Plan at BMO Financial Group where he focuses on pension plan policy, operational effectiveness, legislative compliance, and the drafting of public disclosure documents as it pertains to pensions. He was previously Senior Tax Staff at Ernst & Young LLP where he focused on the audit of pension plans of private and publicly traded companies. He began his career at Mercer (Canada) Ltd, where he worked on the design, valuation and management of pension plans for companies across the financial, industrial and energy sectors. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Toronto.
Sarah Obeng, Director at Large
Sarah is a Dealing Representative with the Children’s Education Funds Inc., helping parents, and especially encouraging mothers to plan for their children’s future education. As a social development and communications professional, she is passionate about empowering women and youth for better lives. She has worked with both private and not for profit organizations in this regard, in addition to formulating policies and developing programs and projects for social development.
Sarah holds a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana, a commonwealth diploma in youth development, and a diploma in development leadership from the St. Francis Xavier University, NS, Canada.
